Ligue 2 club have announced an end to their collaboration with manager Nicolas Usaï, with the club currently languishing in 16th place in France’s second division.

According to the club, it was a mutual decision to end their collaboration after almost a year. Usaï arrived on 5th January with the aim of keeping the club in the division. He exceeded that objective, leading the club to 9th. However, Nîmes’ start of season form has fallen short of expectations. In the 2022/23 season, the club have a record of four victories, three draws, and eight defeats: a record clearly judged to be unsatisfactory by the ownership.

Four teams will be relegated to the national division (N1) this season, whilst only two Ligue 2 clubs will be promoted to France’s top division in an end-of-season re-organisation of the French footballing pyramid. Conscient of the club’s negative trajectory under Usaï, Nîmes have therefore taken the decision to find a new coach.

Due to the World Cup, Ligue 2 doesn’t return until Boxing Day (26th December), meaning that the new manager, should they be brought in quickly, will have around a month to work with his new squad before returning to competitive action.
