After reports of an agreement emerged earlier this week, Real Madrid have officially announced that goalkeeper Andriy Lunin has signed a new contract with the club.

“Real Madrid CF and Andriy Lunin have agreed to extend our player’s contract, which will keep him at the club until June 30, 2030,” the statement from the club read.

Lunin, 25, has been at Real Madrid since 2018, but only made his proper breakthrough last season, having previously had loan spells away and then having played second-fiddle to Thibaut Courtois.

The Ukrainian international was a key part of the success that Los Blancos achieved last season and has even been nominated for the 2024 Yachine Trophy.

This past summer, there were intense speculations about Lunin leaving Real Madrid, after losing his place in the team following Courtois’ return from injury.

But the Ukrainian international stayed put, although rumours of an exit next year on a free transfer, when his previous contract would have expired, continued to do the rounds.

However, Lunin has now committed to a new six-year contract at Real Madrid, penning the deal today which will run until 2030.

Initial reports had suggested that Lunin’s new deal would be for four years until 2028, but Real Madrid have managed to tie down the 25-year-old stopper until 2030.
