RC Strasbourg Alsace have completed the signing of Sékou Mara (22) from Southampton for a fee reported to be around €12m.

Mara joined the Saints two years ago from formative club Girondins de Bordeaux for a similar transfer fee. Mara struggled to make himself invaluable for the Saints and has been consistently linked with a return to France. He logged eight goals and five assists in 64 games played for Southampton FC.

Strasbourg have reportedly beaten Ligue 1 rivals such as Stade Brestois and RC Lens to complete a deal for the French forward. He has signed a five-year deal with Les Alsaciens and will wear the No.14 shirt.

He is the latest big-money recruit in what has been a busy and ambitious window for RCSA. As well as securing Caleb Wiley and Andrey Santos on loan from partner club Chelsea, they have also spent fees on Guéla Doué, Félix Lemarechal, Óscar Perea, Diego Moreira and Pape Diong, whilst Mamadou Sarr is also expected to sign from Olympique Lyonnais imminently.
