Toulouse have announced the arrival of German midfielder Niklas Schmidt from Werder Bremen, with the 25-year-old becoming Les Violets‘ sixth signing of the summer.

Reports of a bid emerged emerged last month, with the former German international reportedly enticed by the prospect of playing in the Europa League group stage with the Coupe de France winners.

Schmidt had spent the last two campaigns back at his formative club, and was part of the Werder side that clinched promotion back to the Bundesliga one year ago. Although not a regular starter, he made 24 appearances last season and found the net three times, after scoring twice and registering six assists the season before that.

The midfielder has previously turned out for VfL Osnabrück and Wehen Wiesbaden on loan spells from the Grün-Weißen. He had faced Toulouse only two weeks ago when Werder Bremen played against the Ligue 1 side during a pre-season training camp in Austria.
