Union Berlin have announced the signing of Benedict Hollerbach from 2. Bundesliga side, SV Wehen Wiesbaden.
Union have been chasing Hollerbach for some time but faced competition from FC Köln. However, the Irons were always leading the race and have now signed the 22-year-old forward.
It’s reported that Waiesbaden demanded a fee of around €1.5m for Hollerbach. The forward played a key role for Wiesbaden last year as they secured promotion to the second tier following a dominating display in the promotion play-off against Arminia Bielefeld.
Hollerbach played 41 times for Wiesbaden last season, scoring 19 goals. Remarkably, Hollerbach has gone from playing in the third division to the Champions League in the space of one season.
Upon signing for the club, Hollerbach explained that he was looking forward to the task ahead: “With the move to Union, my dream of playing in the Bundesliga has come true. That was always my goal and now I want to do everything I can to continue my development successfully and to serve the team.”
