Nicolás Castillo’s former attack partner has backed the América striker to make a full recovery from the thrombosis in his right leg that ended his season after it had barely begun.
Castillo had been hoping to impress in his second year with Las Águilas, but all his energies are now going towards getting fit and healthy as soon as possible.
Diego Buonanotte, an old team-mate of Castillo’s at Chilean club Universidad Católica, spoke to Marco Claro about his friend’s misfortune.
“With Nico I have a very good relationship, a very nice friendship,” Buonanotte said.
“I love him very much like my family. He is the maximum idol of my son. We were aware of the situation.
“I am a friend of his personal physical trainer. During this very delicate situation, I was always aware of how he was.”
Castillo has been keeping his fans abreast of his continuing recovery via social media, and Buonanotte – who is still with Universidad Católica – has been heartened by the Chile international’s progress.
“I am seeing a lot of videos that he is training. He is super professional. I know he will come back quickly and he will score goals. The world of football is looking forward to his return,” Buonanotte said.
Castillo suffered the blood clot back in January and was only released from hospital last month.
Neither he nor América have given any indication of when the player expects to return to action.
