Standard Liege have announced that on loan midfielder Steven Alzate is set to miss six weeks after tearing his anterior talofibular ligament. The injury happened during the 0-0 draw with Walloon rivals Charleroi last weekend. There had been fears that Alzate would miss even more time, but given that most of the time away will fall during the winter break, the news is not as bad as it could have been for the club.

It was recently revealed that Brighton have an option to recall the midfielder in January if they wish. Standard’s management are hopeful that this will not be the case, as they see the on loan Colombian as an integral part of the squad. Even head coach Carl Hoefkens recently stated that he would love to just hand the midfielder a five-year contract if he could. Given the injury situation, it is unlikely that the Premier League side will bring Alzate back to East Sussex in January.
