Oribe Peralta is in contention for a rare start at Pumas on Sunday after Chivas have been struck with a striking crisis.

Ángel Zaldívar hit a stoppage-time winner from the spot a fortnight ago against Necaxa, but the Flock released a statement on Saturday confirming that he has been nursing a hamstring injury.

“Ángel presents an injury at the level of the distal tendon of the left femoral biceps, so it is ruled out for the match against Pumas and his return to the competition will be evaluated according to the evolution,” the club said in a statement.

It is a major blow for Los Rojiblancos, as Zaldívar is their top scorer with three goals so far in the Apetura campaign.

His absence is even more keenly felt because Alexis Vega is also unavailable after picking up an injury with Mexico against Costa Rica during the international break.

That leaves 37-year-old Peralta and 24-year-old José Godínez as the options up front for manager Víctor Manuel Vucetich.

Should the veteran get the nod, it will be his first start since the opening game of the Guard1anes 2021 season against Puebla back on January 8.
