At this point in the 2025 season, Orlando City SC hits a 13-point wall. They just survived the first collision.

Orlando City SC fell to the Philadelphia Union 4-2 to start the 2025 season. By the time they met for the second match, the Union had accumulated enough to become a 13-point wall.

The Lions survived their collision with this wall in Philadelphia. That’s because the squad desperately needed to fix the team’s defense in the first meeting. But six games later, it was fixed. Orlando left the Union pitch with a 0-0 draw.

They also improved their unbeaten streak with the draw. It extended to four games just seven matches into the season.

While they didn’t earn three points, Orlando’s players proved a lot to themselves and their supporters by earning this draw against the Union. The Philadelphia squad worked furiously for a different outcome.

The Union nearly doubled up Orlando’s passes 509-332, 80.2% accurate. They unleashed 20 shots toward Lions goalkeeper Pedro Gallese – the most all season. Yet only four shots were on target, and Gallese saved them all for his first clean sheet of 2025.

The Orlando defense was every bit as furious as the Philadelphia offense. Of the 16 off-target shots, eight were blocked.

The Lions’ backline of Alex Freeman, Robin Jansson, Rodrigo Schlegel, and David Brekalo remained unchanged for the entire match. But they never lost the energy needed to foil the Union’s attempts to score.

Captain Jansson made his 200th start for the Lions across all competitions.

This leaves Orlando in sixth place in the MLS Eastern Conference with 11 points. Every team above has 13 points except the first-place Columbus Crew. They have 15.

That’s a powerful wall standing between the Lions and conference leadership. But the team has proved they can collide with that wall and make it to full time.

There’s still work to be done. But for today, Orlando City SC is still standing.
