Former Manchester United player Owen Hargreaves believes new boss Ruben Amorim can work wonders with Rasmus Hojlund.

The Dane grabbed a well-taken brace in his first start under the new manager and will hope he can consolidate his place in the first team line up.

Speaking to TNT Sports (via The Metro) after the game Hargreaves waxed lyrical over the performance of numerous United stars, including Hojlund.

“It was nice to see Hojlund step up and score some goals. He’s a super talented young man, I think there’s so much potential in him.”

Hargreaves also expanded on the role Amorim could potentially have in the Dane’s development and claimed, “that’s the good thing about Ruben Amorim, he’s brilliant with young players, we saw what he did with Viktor Gyokeres, I’m sure he could do that with Rasmus Hojlund as well.”

Hojlund claimed last night that Amorim’s system “suits him well” and he is already used to playing in this formation as he experienced it with his previous club Atalanta.

The former England international also stated that he was excited about the players United have coming back from injury and how they could fit into the head coach’s vision.

“There are so many different options to come. It’ll just be exciting to get [Leny] Yoro back fit, [Luke] Shaw back fit, [Noussair] Mazraoui plays amazing every time he plays, there’s a lot of potential here.”

As well as pinpointing Mazraoui’s display he also highlighted another new signing’s effectiveness during the contest.

“Ugarte I thought played really well today, there are a lot of people who are going to get opportunities”.

Hargreaves also explained that he feels there will definitely be a role for United starlet Kobbie Mainoo in the coming weeks.

“It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Kobbie Mainoo, such a special young player, you’d think he’d kind of almost walk into that midfield.”

The Champions League winner did temper expectations a little though and queried whether the Red Devils could play such a formation against stronger sides in the Premier League.

“I think they’ve got some really good players, different players but he might have to tweak it that maybe one of the No.10s drops in and one of the wing-backs gets a little bit higher for the width. But I think playing two in there against an Arsenal or a [Manchester] City, I think that’s going to be really, really difficult.”

The Red Devils take on numerous top half teams in an exciting festive period of football and will travel to the Emirates Stadium in five days to take on Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, in one of their biggest tests of the season.
