‘Part tank, part footballer’: Former Reading FC man on form for FC Den Bosch to start the Eerste Divisie season | OneFootball

Back in the summer of 2016, Reading FC unveiled the singing of Danzell Gravenberch from FC Dordrecht. The former Ajax man had bounced around a few clubs before somehow finding himself in Berkshire. His time with the Royals was uneventful, with his best position on the pitch rather vague. Originally signed and announced as a defender, the player ended up playing in midfield as well as upfront. Gravenberch only made five first team appearances before being shipped of to Dai Yongge’s other club KSV Roeselare. He failed to score in 30 games for the Belgian side before leaving the Yongge portfolio of clubs in 2019.

Since then, Gravenberch has spent most of his time in the Dutch second tier, with a brief season at Sparta Rotterdam in the Eredivisie where he scored five goals in 21 games. He has found himself to be a decent striker, although never hitting more than five goals in a single season. This summer he joined FC Den Bosch, and looks set to potentially have his best season as a striker.

In three games this season he has already scored twice and grabbed one assist. That’s just one goal less than last season with Telstar and already the same amount of assists. During the game against MVV Maastricht this weekend, the opponents social media certainly appreciated the physical side of Gravenberch’s game. After the forward struck the ball into the crowd, the sides X account called him ‘Part tank, part footballer’. Certainly, Gravenberch has a similar physical appearance to legendary football league forward Adebayo Akinfenwa.

The man who once cost Reading €85k has had a great start to the campaign and should be able to surpass his goals and assist tally’s. FC Den Bosch have finished second bottom the last two seasons and have not finished higher than 11th since the 2018/2019 season. Could Gravenberch be one to help them break this run of poor seasons?
