The good news arrived yesterday that Matteo Gabbia has extended his contract with AC Milan until 2029, and the club celebrated it with a touching video.

Despite Paulo Fonseca’s consistent defensive changes, Gabbia has been solid when called upon and a leader, something which the team have often lacked without his presence.

Since returning from his loan spell with Villarreal he looks to have become a very mature central defender, and thus the news of his new long-term deal was met with strong support from fans.

Following his late winner in the Derby della Madonnina he is on his way to earning cult status already, with the hope being that he might even become a ‘bandiera’ in the future.

After the announcement about his extension, Milan published an emotional video showing the 24-year-old’s journey to this point, from the youth ranks to the first team.
