Patrick Herrmann and Tony Jantschke to retire at the end of the season | OneFootball

Last week, Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Patrick Herrmann announced his retirement at the end of the season, and today Tony Jantschke also announced that he would retire.

Both have been prominent figures in Gladbach’s squad for over 15 years but both will not leave the Gladbach bubble as both will take up other roles at the club, with Jantschke joining the coaching team.

Herrmann joined Gladbach in 2009 from Saarbrücken and since his time at the club, he has played 418 games, putting him fifth in Gladbach’s all-time appearance list behind Berti Vogts, Uwe Kamps, Herbert Wimmer and Wolfgang Kleff. The 33-year-old has also earned two caps for Germany during his time at Gladbach, the last coming in 2015.

Jantschke has been at the club longer, joining from youth side FV Dresden-Nord back in 2006. He is currently the longest-serving player at the club and earned the nickname ‘FußballGott’ from the Gladbach fans. The 34-year-old has made a total of 301 appearances for Gladbach during his 16-year spell in the first team.
