Paul Warne offers update on Rotherham United transfer pursuit | OneFootball

Rotherham United boss Paul Warne has told the Yorkshire Post that the club are unlikely to sign Bohemians striker Georgie Kelly this month.

The Millers have held talks with the League of Ireland Premier Division top scorer, however it appears that a move could now be off the cards for the 25-year-old.

After scoring 21 goals in 31 games, Kelly saw himself linked with Rotherham United and Bradford City but now it seems a transfer to the ASSEAL New York Stadium could be off the cards.

Now Warne has offered an update on the situation involving the striker, as he stated the following recently:

“I’m aware of him and we have spoken.

“The Irish League is finished and he’s a free transfer.

“I don’t intend to sign a striker this window as I have four strikers here.”

Meanwhile the Millers are pressing ahead with their attempts to sell Curtis Tilt to Wigan Athletic on a free transfer after the defender was recalled.

However it now seems that the defender could well stay in South Yorkshire after all after no bid was made.

The Verdict

It is a shame that Rotherham won’t be signing Kelly, but at the same time they do have plenty of good strikers at their disposal who are capable of firing them into the Championship once more.

Warne clearly has faith in the options at his disposal and only views Kelly as back up for if they need to bring in a replacement for one of their frontmen.

There has to be a line of succession at every club in order to maintain some form of success on the field of play and for that reason it is no shock to hear that the Rotherham boss always has options on the back burner.

For now however the squad seems settled and it appears unlikely that they will conduct too much business at this late stage of the window.
