Thiago Almada (23) is set to earn his first start for Olympique Lyonnais this weekend when the club host Stade Brestois at the Groupama Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Argentine midfielder joined Lyon during the past transfer window from Botafogo on a loan deal. It was a deal that the French side were able to complete despite the transfer ban looming over their heads due to the shared ownership between the two clubs.
Almada has already made five appearances off the bench for Lyon since arriving in Europe as the club slowly bedded him into his new surroundings. His last appearance came last weekend in the 3-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
Paulo Fonseca explained in his press conference that Almada has impressed him during his short time in France, “He’ll start. He’s a player who plays very well between the lines, intelligent, very strong technically. He controls the spaces very well. He knows how to make the right decisions and deliver good passes in decisive areas. When he comes on, he plays well and deserves to start a match, and play more.”
Lyon will be hoping to continue their free-scoring ways since Fonseca replaced Pierre Sage. The club have found the net 12 times in the four matches that the former AC Milan and Lille OSC head coach has overseen (two victories and two defeats).
