Earlier today, Barcelona midfielder Pedri presented his new children’s book, “Pedri y las leyendas de las botas de oro” (Pedri and the Legends of the Golden Boots), created in collaboration with Plátano de Canarias, to encourage healthy eating habits among children.
During the event, Pedri reflected on his current form with Barcelona and the national team. He spoke fondly of his playing style, describing it as “street football, where you have fun—just as I do in the stadiums now.”
The 22-year-old also highlighted the importance of teamwork, referencing his decisive penalty against the Netherlands in the shootout win.
“Without Unai Simon, I would not have achieved it; it is all about the team,” he said.
Pedri also took the opportunity to praise his teammates, especially Lamine Yamal, who missed his penalty during the shootout on Sunday.
“He is a spectacle. We need to take care of him so he can enjoy playing for a long time,” said the midfield superstar.
The Spaniard also defended Inigo Martinez amid criticism over his withdrawal from the national team squad due to a knock.
“As Unai said, he was disrespected. When a player is injured, these things happen. It happened to me once when I missed a national team call-up, and people said I was backing out. Inigo is a professional on and off the pitch,” said Pedri.

Pedri also commented on Wojciech Szczesny’s possible contract renewal, stating that he would be very happy if the veteran goalkeeper stayed at Barcelona.
“I would love for him to stay. He is a great guy and very funny. He never feels pressure. He has been outstanding this season. I always tell him he is huge, and it is hard to score against him. I have a great time with him on and off the pitch,” he stated.
Pedri has different roles for club and country. At Barça, he plays as a No. 8, but with the national team, he is utilised as a No. 10 by Luis de la Fuente. On being asked which position he preferred, the midfielder replied:
“I prefer playing as a No. 8, where I can receive and touch the ball more, but I respect the coach’s decisions. He is the one in charge.”
Finally, Pedri did not shy away from the idea of a Barcelona vs Real Madrid Champions League final in Munich.
“I would sign for a Barça-Madrid final in Munich. There is nothing to be afraid of. It would mean we reached the final. I am sure all the fans would love it. Being in the final is what matters,” he stated.
