Manchester City are interested in signing £50 million-rated Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa in the summer, according to new reports.
The Premier League champions are looking to bounce back from a disappointing season across competitions by bolstering their ranks in the summer and clearing out much of the deadwood in the first-team squad.
Erling Haaland has been heavily relied upon in front of goal since the sales of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid, Riyad Mahrez to Al-Ahli and Cole Palmer to Chelsea over the last 18 months and in successive transfer windows.
Manchester City signed Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt in January as part of a £181.5 million mid-season investment that also saw the Blues secure the arrivals of Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis and Nico Gonzalez.
Oscar Bobb is finally nearing a return to first-team action after recovering from a leg fracture sustained last summer, as well as an ankle injury earlier this year, and Ballon d’Or winner Rodri also returned to individual training last week.
Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz and Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso have also been reported to be high on Pep Guardiola’s summer wish-list, and incoming sporting director Hugo Viana is expected to back the 54-year-old to recruit fresh blood to go again next season.
Now, according to a new report by TBR Football, manager Pep Guardiola is keen on signing Aston Villa forward Jacob Ramsey, who has enjoyed a stellar rise at the club and an impressive season as a whole under Unai Emery.
Villa are enjoying an incredible campaign as they hold a 3-1 lead ahead of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 return leg against Club Brugge, while firmly being in the race for a top-four finish in the Premier League.
A sale of Ramsey, who is reportedly valued at £50 million, would represent pure profit for the club and give them additional leeway around Profit & Sustainability Rules (PSR) after acquisitions of Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio; the former likely to join permanently.
Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea are believed to have kept tabs on Ramsey, who has impressed many at the Etihad Stadium with his progress under Emery since the Spaniard’s arrival at Villa Park.
The uncertainty around Jack Grealish’s future at the Etihad Stadium – just under four years into his record £100 million move from Villa to City – adds an element of intrigue to this link as Pep Guardiola looks to strengthen his frontline and support Erling Haaland.
