Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has issued a spiky response to reporters over questioning surrounding a potential approach from the FA over the England job.

Reports earlier this week had suggested that the 53-year-old was subject to ‘informal contact’ from the Football Association during the summer over the previously vacant managerial position within the England national team set-up.

After Gareth Southgate’s exit from the position in the summer following a European Championship final defeat to Spain, England had put Lee Carsley in charge for the interim while they weighed up a list of candidates across the game.

Having ultimately landed on German coach Thomas Tuchel, questions from reporters to Premier League managers across the last few hours have centred around their own approaches from the national football federation.

And speaking to reporters on Friday afternoon ahead of Manchester City’s meeting with Wolves in the Premier League this weekend, Pep Guardiola issued a relatively spiky response to questions on whether he had been approached by the FA over the England managerial role.

“Thomas Tuchel is the manager, so forget about it,” Guardiola said.

“I’m the manager of Man City, so the conversations I have are about Man City. This is what it is. (Thomas) Tuchel is the manager already, Thomas is that,” he continued.

“This is the most important, the rest is not important.”

Pep Guardiola and Manchester City return to action following the second international break of the campaign with a visit to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon, as they hope to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

City are expecting to be without both Kevin De Bruyne and Nathan Ake for the visit to Molineux, despite both being at the final end of their recovery process, whilst assessments will be made on their Brazilian contingent and Manuel Akanji in the coming hours.

Rodri and Oscar Bobb remain ruled out as they continue to recover from long-term injury problems, with the latter being a part of commercial activities and Manchester City’s trip to Abu Dhabi as part of a trophy tour this weekend.
