A new report has revealed a three-day trip to Barcelona undertaken by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola last week in connection with his marriage.
Sources in Spain had reported in mid-January that the Manchester City coach and his wife, Cristina Serra had decided to separate after over 30 years together.
It was claimed at the time by various sources that the pair had made the decision back in December and had asked their closest circle to not explain details to the press given the personal nature of the circumstances.
However, it was stressed that despite not being a couple, Guardiola and Serra have continued to get along well, and their relationship is ‘cordial, stable and friendly’. Journalist, Lorena Vazquez said, “It’s been a carefully-considered decision discussed over several months.”
She continued, “They continue to have a cordial and affectionate relationship. No-one else is involved. There are no third parties. We’re going to carry on seeing them together.”
Now, fresh details have emerged from British media revealing the details of a quick trip undertaken by Manchester City’s manager to visit Cristina Serra in their home city of Barcelona during sanctioned days off from the club.
That is according to the information of The Sun newspaper, who report that Guardiola made a ‘secret’ three-day trip to Barcelona last week to ‘rescue his marriage’, staying with his wife Cristina at their home.
It is claimed that the 54-year-old has “not given up hope on his marriage”, according to sources speaking to the newspaper, despite a divorce announcement in January.
The City boss is said to have taken a private jet from Manchester to Barcelona hours after the 3-1 win against Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup last Saturday, while a source has stated, “They spent three nights together in Barcelona, both staying at the family home.”
The unnamed source continued, “Pep went out on Monday to the dentist and Cristina went to her fashion shop in the city centre.
“They met up again at the shop and spent three hours there before returning to the house to spend the evening together. Pep left for Manchester on Tuesday morning.”
Since the first emergence of the various details within British and Spanish media in early January, neither Manchester City nor Pep Guardiola have commented on the matter, while the latter has not been quizzed for answers by either portions of the press in media duties.
