Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola refused to be drawn into a potential jinx ahead of the club’s meeting with Arsenal in the Premier League this weekend.

City will be hoping to maintain their 100 per cent winning run into a sixth matchday this season, having won their opening four encounters in the latest Premier League season and facing the challenge of Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

Mikel Arteta’s side have proven to be the sternest challenge to Manchester City’s Premier League title-winning seasons of 2022/23 and 2023/24, with Guardiola’s side coming out on top in both campaigns but without the threat from the North London club.

Manchester City’s form at the Etihad Stadium in particular has played a crucial role in their success over recent seasons, having last lost a game against Brentford in the Premier League prior to the start of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash with Mikel Arteta, Guardiola demanded one journalist changed the subject of his question when he was reminded that the Etihad Stadium had not witnessed a Premier League defeat since prior to Qatar 2022.

“I don’t like these type of questions,” Guardiola responded. “You did it against Brentford and look what happened! So, I advise you to change the subject, you have time.”

It was Brentford who provided an almighty scare to Manchester City’s home record too last weekend, taking the lead at the Etihad Stadium inside 30 seconds after a lapse of concentration presented Yoane Wissa with a free-header from close range.

Erling Haaland would go on to score a brace and ensure that there would be no shock in front of the home faithful, taking his own tally for the Premier League season to nine goals after four matches.

City will be looking to return to winning ways this weekend after their debut in the latest UEFA Champions League season resulted in a 0-0 draw against Inter Milan at the Etihad Stadium, whilst Arsenal were also held to the same scoreline by Atalanta in Bergamo.
