Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that full-back Issa Kabore could remain at the Etihad Stadium for the 2024/25 season.

The Burkinabe international was named as a substitute for Manchester City’s 4-1 Premier League win over Ipswich Town at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with the full-back having also been in Pep Guardiola’s squad for the FA Community Shield at Wembley Stadium earlier this month.

Kabore, who spent the previous season at Kenilworth Road on a season-long loan at Luton Town, has never made a first-team appearance for Manchester City and wasn’t involved in the Blues’ pre-season tour of the United States.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a potential move elsewhere in the Premier League, amid summer interest from both Tottenham Hotspur and Everton, as well as Serie A giants AS Roma.

Kabore featured 24 times in the Premier League for Luton last season, with the versatile full-back registering two top-flight assists for Rob Edwards’ side during the 2023/24 campaign.

The defender has been training at the City Football Academy in recent weeks with the first-team, as Guardiola’s side begin their pursuit of an unprecedented fifth consecutive Premier League title.

Speaking about the future of the 23-year-old ahead of the final week of the transfer window, Guardiola said: “Maybe, maybe, maybe. He’s training really good, and he helped us in the position that sometimes we need, so yeah, maybe. We have to decide. It’s not already decided.”

The 53-year-old manager was speaking following Manchester City’s victory over Ipswich Town at the Etihad Stadium, where summer additions Savinho and Ilkay Gundogan both featured in the opening home match of the new campaign.

Gundogan completed a shock return to Manchester City on a free transfer from FC Barcelona on Friday morning, re-signing for the Sky Blues on an initial one-year deal, and just over 12 months after ending a seven-year stay to move to La Liga.
