Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has held frequent discussions with Pep Guardiola throughout the club’s ongoing winless streak across competitions.

The Premier League champions have lost all of their last three matches in the Premier League, and find themselves at the centre of a six-game winless run across competitions, ending a five-game run of losses against Feyenoord on Tuesday night.

The draw against the Dutch giants did not come without its own frustrations however, as a brace from Erling Haaland and a singular effort from Ilkay Gundogan saw City move to a 3-0 lead by 75 minutes, before conceding three in succession and drawing the affair.

That result comes on the eve of a huge Premier League meeting with title rivals Liverpool at Anfield this weekend, as Arne Slot’s players could not be in a more contrasting run of form themselves and coming into the clash off the back of a 2-0 win over Real Madrid at home.

Speaking in the build-up to City’s mammoth encounter in Liverpool, manager Pep Guardiola revealed that talks have been ongoing with key figures within the club regarding their winless run at present.

On the club’s Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak in particular, Guardiola said, “We talk, since nine years, not every day but after the games all the time, and we call some times, and yeah, we talk.

“He gives his opinion, I give my opinion, Txiki [Begiristain] gives me his opinion, the players give their opinion, and after we try to figure out.”

Guardiola was also quizzed on whether the squad is in a position where it requires wholesale changes in the forthcoming transfer markets, to which he responded, “I don’t completely agree.

“We cannot forget that three months ago, we were Premier League champions, in the FA Cup final, and we arrived in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, defeated by playing extraordinary against Real Madrid. It’s the same guys.”

Manchester City will be well aware of the fact that defeat against Liverpool this weekend would leave them 11 points adrift of the Merseyside club, in a gap that some already believe would be too much to recover from.

The meeting with the Anfield club marks the start of a gruesome and challenging run across competitions throughout December, including away trips to Juventus in the UEFA Champions League, as well as Aston Villa and Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
