Philippe Clement’s latest questionable comment, this time saying Rangers miss John Lundstram, is another dubious quote from the manager who has made quite a few of these since March.
For those unclear on what he said, he admitted/claimed Rangers missed the-now Trabzonspor midfielder:
“Some missed pre-season, others also who are new like Connor Barron. You miss a really important part with (John) Lundstram there to lead the team out of the midfield.”
If there was one thing Lundstram absolutely did not do, it was lead. For all the tubthumping his style alluded to, he was in fact incredibly meek, particularly against Celtic, and never once did he lead or dominate against their midfield.
And his final 6 months at Rangers were absolutely abysmal, as his head turned and he wanted out.
For Clement to undermine his current crop of players by saying the club basically needs John Lundstram back to succeed is not what we want to hear.
Lundstram is history, he’s gone – in terms of Rangers moving forward, the manager pining for a player we don’t have any more isn’t going to help anyone.
Especially one who wasn’t even very good in the end.
Lundstram wanted out, and Clement wanted him to stay, and he’s not shy at all about telling the world that he wants him back.
Not what Connor Barron needs to hear, if we’re honest.
