AC Milan handed Inter Milan their first defeat of the season.

The Nerazzurri had won the last six editions of the derby against their city rivals. But they were outplayed and fell to a 2-1 loss in Serie A.

Milan went ahead early through Christian Pulisic. Then, Inter found a response as Federico Dimarco equalized.

In the second half, the Rossoneri had a few good chances to score.

But it was defender Matteo Gabbia who scored the winner for Milan in the end. He headed home in the closing stages.

As football stats account Opta pointed out in a tweet, Pulisic’s goal was the first time in a while that Milan have scored early in the derby.

They tweeted, “Milan have opened the score of the derby against #Inter in #SerieA for the first time since 17 October 2020 (courtesy of Ibrahimovic’s goal in that case). Opener.”
