Borussia Dortmund moved back into fourth and a Champions League spot after a 3-1 win against Eintracht Frankfurt despite going 1-0 down after 13 minutes.
Former Dortmund player Mario Götze opened the scoring for Eintracht Frankfurt after an impressive counter-attack from the visitors to the Westfalenstadion. BVB lost possession in the opposition box and Willian Pacho’s pass put through Omar Marmoush after Mats Hummels and Nico Schlotterbeck failed to out-muscle the Egyptian. His shot was saved by Alexander Meyer, deputising for Gregor Kobel, but only to land at the feet of Götze.
In-form Donyell Malen then assisted Karim Adeyemi who had the easy task of placing the ball in an empty net after the Dutchman’s cross evaded everyone. Hummels then put his side in the lead with a superb diving header nine minutes from time after a superb delivery from Julian Brandt on a set-piece, before Emre Can put the game beyond doubt, converting his penalty after Jamie Bynoe-Gittens was brought down in the area.
Although Dortmund have moved back into fourth, they still face a difficult task ahead in their Champions League aspirations with upcoming games against Bayern Munich, Stuttgart, Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig in four of their next five league games.
