Ligue 1 21/22, Round 21 – 16/1/22
MARSEILLE – 1 (Ünder 75)
Pau López, 8 – Made three excellent first-half saves, a flying stop from Yilmaz after a deflection and an incredible stop again from Yilmaz at point-blank range with a knee while leaping across his line were highlights.
Pol Lirola, 5
William Saliba, 5
Duje Ćaleta-Car, 3 – Wayward on the ball and struggled with Yilmaz and co even after the Lille sending off. Notably clumsily losing possession at the back and should have been punished but was saved miraculously by his keeper.
Luan Peres, 4
Boubacar Kamara, 5
Gerson, 5
Mattéo Guendouzi, 6
Cengiz Ünder, 7 – He did just about enough for 7 having often been Marseille’s most dangerous forward, popping up in pockets around the box, and it was he who hit the equaliser with a sharply struck, bending second half effort.
Dimitri Payet, 5
Arkadiusz Milik, 3
Others: Ronger 5, Harit 5.
LILLE – 1 (Botman 15)
Ivo Grbić, 7
Zeki Çelik, 5
José Fonte, 8
Sven Botman, 9 – Excellent defensively throughout and put Lille ahead as he placed a free header in the corner early on. He was imperious as Lille defended for an hour with ten men; unbeatable in the air and made several key interventions facing his own goal.
Reinildo Mandava, 6
Benjamin André, 2 – Almost never makes mistakes but made two in double time here as he saw two yellow cards inside the first third of the game. The second was an unneeded lunge on Guendouzi and he was rightly dismissed.
Amadou Onana, 4
Renato Sanches, 7 – He hasn’t been quite as effective on the right as he has been in the middle this season but his direct style and positive play unsettled Luan Peres and created chances for Lille in the first half. One cleverly lofted cross for Yilmaz should have brought another assist after his corner set up the opener. Faded a little after the break but continued to work hard.
Jonathan Bamba, 5
Jonathan David, 3 – He has nine goals in 12 games but his general play has been wayward at times in recent weeks and that was the case here, often losing possession and key moments and, this time, he was unable to pose a real goal threat even with Lille countering well for a time with ten men.
Burak Yılmaz, 6
Others: Gudmundsson 5, Lihadji 5, Xeka 5.
