Plotting Arsenal’s summer transfer window: Who should they sign and who could leave?

Arsenal’s title dreams look to be over for another season after Liverpool moved 13 points clear at the top of the table.
Mikel Arteta’s side still have a game in hand on the Reds but with 11 games to go, it looks a very difficult task to overturn the deficit.
It could be the third season in a row that they have finished second in the Premier League table. And while injuries have been a major factor in their inability to kick on this season, questions must be asked as to how else Arteta and the club can get closer to winning the league.
There are obvious areas that need addressing in the summer transfer window. Here’s what Arsenal could look to do…
Martin Zubumendi
Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for the Spain midfielder this summer, who last summer snubbed a move to Liverpool.
He has impressed for Real Sociedad, where he has spent his entire career so far, and looks a good fit for the number six role if Thomas Partey leaves, with Declan Rice playing further forward.
Benjamin Sesko
The Gunners have long been touted with a move for the RB Leipzig striker. He is still young and raw, but has shown improvement this season, scoring 16 goals in 32 games in all competitions.
He has all the attributes to be a top centre forward but it would cost a hefty fee to bring him to the club, but it is an area where the Gunners must strengthen with Gabriel Jesus out long-term.
Sverre Halseth Nypan
The Norwegian teenage prodigy has reportedly attracted the interest of many of Europe’s top clubs, including Arsenal.
Still only 18, the Rosenborg midfielder has been touted as the next Martin Odegaard and having the chance to learn from the Gunners star would be hugely beneficial to his career, while he could also provide some much-needed back-up for his compatriot.
Nico Williams
Another who has long been linked with Arsenal. Gabriel Martinelli has struggled to hit the heights of the form earlier on in his career and Williams would provide a strong alternative to the Brazilian on the left wing. He has scored six goals and notched seven assists in all competitions this season and starred in Spain’s Euro 2024 victory.
Joan Garcia
Arsenal will need another goalkeeper option when Neto’s loan spell ends and have been linked with Espanyol goalkeeper Garcia in the past.
Thomas Partey
The Ghanaian midfielder is out of contract this summer and while he has been good for the Gunners this season, his injury record since he has arrived at the club means handing the 31-year-old a new long-term deal comes with a lot of risk.
Jorginho
Another who is out of contract this summer. It looks as though the 33-year-old will depart north London, where he has been since 2023 after moving from rivals Chelsea.
Oleksandr Zinchenko
Looked set to leave in January but ended up staying put. A summer exit looks likely, however, given Arsenal’s options at left-back and the reduction in game time for the Ukrainian this season.
Fabio Vieira
Currently out on loan at Porto, he has struggled to make an impact at Arsenal and has had a mixed spell in Portugal this season too. A parting of ways to help fund the Gunners’ incomings makes sense.
Kieran Tierney
The Scottish full-back is set to return to his former club Celtic in the summer when his contract runs out following an injury-hit spell with Arsenal.
Jakub Kiwior
Has not impressed this season when called upon and is another who could be sold for a fee to help fund a spending spree.
Reiss Nelson
Has spent this season out on loan at Fulham having struggled to get into Arteta’s team previously, and a move away looks like the best option for everyone.
Nuno Tavares
Lazio have the option to sign the left-back permanently, having spent this season on loan at the Serie A side.
Albert Sambi Lokonga
Also looks set to leave Arsenal permanently and join current loan club Sevilla should they decide to take up their option.
Neto
Will head back to AFC Bournemouth after his loan spell ends.
Raheem Sterling
Only on loan for the season and will return to Chelsea for the next campaign after a disappointing loan spell in north London.
