The Portland Timbers have sold winger Yimmi Chara to Colombian side Junior FC. The 32 year old attacker won the MLS Is Back tournament with the Timbers back in 2020. In his 116 games played for Portland in his career, Chara scored 18 goals and had 15 assists. Unfortunately, the attack has been hit with the injury bug over the last few seasons in Oregon. Chara will now head back to Colombia where he is a league champion, two time Colombian Cup champion, as well as a golden boot winner.
With the departure of Yimmi Chara, Phil Neville and the Timbers have opened up a second Designated Player roster spot. This gives Phil Neville the full opportunity this off-season to build his version of the Portland Timbers roster. With rumors circling around the departure of their remaining DP Evander, Neville might have the opportunity to add the likes of a new DP attacking trio. I am excited to keep my eyes on the pacific northwest this off-season and see just who shows up.
