Porto manager Vitor Bruno has firmly dismissed speculation that Fabio Vieira will return to Arsenal in January.

The midfielder, currently on loan from the Gunners, has been the subject of rumours following his omission from Porto’s squad in their recent thrashing of Boavista.

Vieira, who joined Arsenal for £34 million in 2022, returned to his boyhood club this summer in search of form and confidence.

While his performances have shown promise, contributing two goals and two assists, his sudden exclusion sparked claims of a potential recall.

Some fans fuelled the rumours by noting a private jet’s departure from Porto to London on Sunday, but Bruno has clarified the situation.

According to the manager, Vieira’s absence was a disciplinary measure and not an indication of a mid-season transfer.

Speaking after the Boavista match, Bruno defended his decision, emphasising the importance of discipline and consistency.

Fabio is very talented, but talent needs to align with certain principles,” he said. “When one or two of those principles falter, it makes everything more difficult.”

Vieira was reportedly late to a training session, prompting Bruno to act in line with club regulations.

However, the Porto boss stressed the midfielder remains part of his plans and is expected to return to the squad next week.

Porto are top of the Primeira Liga, having overhauled early leaders Sporting CP. Vieira has been instrumental, with Bruno previously praising his ‘genius’ and growth since his return to Portugal.

Despite the speculation, a recall to Arsenal seems unlikely. The Gunners are well-stocked in midfield, with no pressing need for Vieira’s immediate involvement.

For Porto, retaining the 23-year-old is essential as they aim to maintain their title push.

Instead of an early return to London, Vieira is likely to focus on regaining his place in Porto’s squad. His next opportunity could be against Nacional on Friday, provided Bruno considers his punishment complete.

While Vieira’s timekeeping issue may have caused a brief stir, the situation highlights Bruno’s commitment to discipline and the player’s potential to bounce back stronger.

For now, Arsenal fans should temper their expectations of seeing Vieira back at the Emirates Stadium this season.
