Portsmouth manager Jay Sadler has been issued with an FA charge following his conduct after Sunday’s Barclays Women’s Championship fixture at Bristol City.

Pompey lost the game 1-0 at Ashton Gate. Ffion Morgan’s early goal was the difference between the two sides.

After the match, Portsmouth boss Sadler said that he believed that his side’s performance could prove to be a turning point in their season. He also expressed his frustration with some of the decisions that went against his side including a potential foul on Megan Hornby in the Bristol City box in the second half which wasn’t given.

After being left frustrated, Sadler’s conduct post-match was determined to be below what is expected and his behaviour was reported to The Football Association. Sadler has now been issued with a charge for acting ‘in an improper manner’ and for ‘use of abusive and/or insulting words’.

An FA spokesperson this afternoon issued an official statement on a post-match incident involving Sadler which read:

‘Portsmouth Women’s Jay Sadler has been charged with misconduct following their Women’s Championship match against Bristol City Women on Sunday 20 October 2024. The manager allegedly acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words after the final whistle in or around the match officials dressing room.

Jay Sadler has until Friday 25 October 2024 to provide his response’.

It is unknown whether Sadler will lodge an appeal against the charge.
