Portuguese authorities raid houses of Benfica trio Chiquinho, Vlachodimos and Guedes | OneFootball

Portuguese tax authorities have carried out searches at the homes of Benfica trio Chiquinho, Odysseas Vlachodimos and Goncalo Guedes, reports CNN Portugal.

Investigations are ongoing over the finances involved in the transfers and contract renewals of the aforementioned players.

Authorities have also raided Estadio da Luz – Benfica’s home stadium – in search of documents.

Chiquinho joined the Primeira Liga club for the second time in 2019, returning a year after he was sold to Moreirense.

Benfica retained 50% of his economic rights after his initial exit.

Vlachodimos has been with the club since 2018 following his move from Panathinaikos.

The Greek goalkeeper signed a new contract that runs until 2027 in March, with a €60 million release clause in the deal.

Guedes, who was linked with Barcelona in January, returned to Benfica in the summer on a loan deal from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Portugal international forward initially left the club for Paris Saint-Germain in January 2017, joining for €30m.

Guedes left PSG for Valencia seven months later, initially on loan before making the move permanent in 2018 for €40m.

Benfica earned around €1.4m from the deal and are being investigated for it.

Portuguese tax authorities reckon the club and the players may have failed to declare income from some of the transfers.

They also want to determine whether Guedes declared the bonuses from his move to Spain.

Guedes, Chiquinho, Vlachodimos and Benfica are being investigated for various suspicions of fraud in the conclusion or renewal of contracts.

The payment of commissions to intermediaries and the use of image rights are also being looked into.

The club have issued a statement saying they are ready to cooperate with the authorities during the investigation.
