Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Cristian Romero will miss Tottenham’s trip to face Manchester City in the Premier League this weekend.
Spurs will be without the services of the vice-captain who has a foot problem, leaving the North London side short at centre-back. Romero’s regular partner in central defence, Micky van de Ven, is also sidelined with a hamstring injury.
“Romero won’t be right for tomorrow’s game,” Postecoglou said at his pre-match press conference.
“We’re hoping he will be alright for next week. The ones who were out before that are still out.”
Radu Dragusin and Ben Davies are expected to line up at centre-back as Spurs take on the Premier League champions at the Etihad.
Spurs beat City in the Carabao Cup earlier this month but head into this weekend’s contest with a poor record on the road.
Postecoglou’s side have won just one of their five away games in the Premier League this season. Only five teams have a worse away record.
Spurs will also be without Rodrigo Bentancur, who has been handed a seven-match ban for discriminatory comments made regarding Tottenham teammate Son Heung-min. The North Londoners have appealed against the length of the suspension.
On Bentancur’s ban, Postecoglou said: “I spoke to him briefly, he only got in late yesterday. He has accepted all along that he is going to take any penalty that comes his way and at the same time obviously for us now it’s trying to support him through the process and hopefully get through it and once the ban’s over, get him ready to contribute.”
