Premier League club express surprise interest in Chelsea ace and could move before deadline day | OneFootball

Axel Disasi is attracting interest from Newcastle as they explore alternative options to Marc Guehi according to David Ornstein.

The Frenchman arrived at the club last summer from Monaco and featured prominently last season under Mauricio Pochettino, making 44 appearances in all competitions.

Disasi missed the entire pre-season after he underwent surgery on a minor hernia issue and wasn’t named in the squad for last weekend’s defeat against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

Newcastle interested in Disasi

The Blues have once again been busy this summer and heavily invested in the squad, but following the imminent arrival of Joao Felix they need to focus on outgoings with a number of players still needing to be moved on.

Disasi wouldn’t have been a name many would have thought of when it comes to leaving this summer but Ornstein has reported that Newcastle have expressed an interest in the 26-year-old as they look at alternative targets incase they can’t agree a deal with Crystal Palace for Guehi.

The Blues are trying to offload Trevoh Chalobah with the defender currently training away from the first team, but any news surrounding his departure appears to have gone quiet.

Disasi is yet to feature under Enzo Maresca, but it appears he isn’t particularly well suited to how the Italian wants to play and it’s unlikely he would be a first choice.

However, Disasi could be in line for his first minutes of the season after he was named in the squad for the first leg of Thursday’s Europa Conference League play-off against Swiss side Servette.

The situation surrounding Disasi could certainly be one to watch between now and deadline day, especially if the Magpies concede defeat in their pursuit of Guehi.

Whilst it’s obvious the Blues would rather move Chalobah on it would be very interesting to see what they would do if a reasonable offer came in for Disasi, but it’s also unclear if the defender would even want to leave the club.
