Premier League transfers to watch before the PSR deadline | OneFootball

Premier League clubs are running out of time to conclude deals for the financial year, with June 30 the deadline for deals to fall inside the 2023-24 accounts for Profit and Sustainability Rules.

A number of clubs need funds to remain compliant, which has led to a rush of transfers and swap deals involving those involved.

Ahead of the deadline this weekend, we’ve looked at six Premier League transfers to keep an eye on.

Yankuba Minteh (Newcastle)

Newcastle have reluctantly deemed Yankuba Minteh as disposable this summer with the winger having enhanced his reputation with a successful season on loan at Feyenoord. The 19-year-old scored 10 goals and provided five assists in 17 league starts for the Dutch side last season and is valued at around £40m at St James’ Park.

Everton saw talks over a potential swap deal involving Dominic Calvert-Lewin moving to St James’ Park fall through, while Minteh rejected a move to Lyon amid a desire to remain in the Premier League.

Brighton have also been linked with the Gambian, while reports this week have said Everton are willing to revive talks. Signed for just €7m (£5.9m) from Odense last summer, his exit would recoup significant profit for the Magpies.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (Leicester)

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war between Chelsea and Brighton. A driving force in Leicester’s promotion to the Premier League, the Foxes’ financial issues have increased the likelihood of an exit for the academy graduate.

Brighton had agreed a deal that would see Jakub Moder and £25m sent in exchange for Dewsbury-Hall, but late interest from Chelsea has complicated the deal. Enzo Maresca, who left Leicester to take charge at Chelsea this summer, is keen on a reunion with the midfielder who scored 12 goals and provided 14 assists in the Championship last season.

In March, Leicester were charged by the Premier League with allegedly breaking spending rules during their last three seasons in the top flight, raising fears over a points deduction on their return to the division.

Jhon Duran (Aston Villa)

Jhon Duran appeared a likely mover earlier in the transfer window but discussions over his future have cooled. Aston Villa are prepared to cash in on the forward who struggled for regular football under Unai Emery last season, as the club looks to alleviate some of their PSR concerns.

However, the imminent sale of Douglas Luiz to Juventus and Omari Kellyman’s transfer to Chelsea for £19m have plugged the gap for Villa ahead of the deadline. Chelsea had also been linked with signing Duran, but the West Londoners are assessing a long list of potential targets at centre-forward and it is unclear how highly the 20-year-old features on their shortlist.

One team who could approach Villa over a deal is West Ham. The Irons expressed interest in the Colombian in January and remain on the hunt for a striker this summer. Concluding a deal could prove complicated before June 30, however, due to Duran’s involvement at the Copa America.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton)

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was in talks over a move to Newcastle from Everton, though the deal stalled over Everton’s £37m valuation of the forward. The 27-year-old has just a year to run on his contract at Goodison Park, while his injury record – missing 48 league games across the last three seasons – is a concern for Newcastle at that fee.

The breakdown in talks blocked Yankuba Minteh’s move in the opposite direction though there is fresh hope that a deal could be revived before the PSR deadline. Newcastle view Calvert-Lewin as an ideal replacement for Callum Wilson, who is attracting interest from the Premier League, MLS and Saudi Pro League.

AC Milan has also been mentioned as a potential destination for Calvert-Lewin, as the Italians look to replace Olivier Giroud.

Murillo (Nottingham Forest)

Nottingham Forest face a fight to hold onto the services of Murillo amid enquiries from Chelsea and Juventus.

The 21-year-old was named Nottingham Forest’s Player of the Season for 2023-24 after an impressive adaptation to the Premier League following his arrival from Corinthians. Signed for just £11m, there is confidence within the City Ground that Forest could recoup five times that investment for a player expected to develop into a full Brazil international.

Murillo ranked third for clearances across Europe’s top five leagues last season and caught the eye with his confidence in possession and athleticism. Chelsea could look to strike a deal involving players in exchange, with Trevoh Chalobah mentioned as a makeweight. Chalobah rejected a £25m move to Forest during last summer’s transfer window.

Forest’s financial situation appears unclear ahead of the deadline, with the club having protested their four-point deduction last season due to Brennan Johnson’s £47.5m move to Tottenham coming after the June 30 deadline for 2022-23 accounts. Forest are also close to completing the £20m sale of Moussa Niakhaté to Lyon.

Trevoh Chalobah (Chelsea)

Trevoh Chalobah looks likely to be ushered out the exit door at Chelsea this summer, despite an impressive return to the team across the run-in. The academy graduate is viewed as disposable following the arrival of Tosin Adarabioyo from Fulham on a free transfer and would represent pure profit on the books.

Chalobah is not short of suitors with Nottingham Forest known admirers, though the 24-year-old is understood to want to sign for a club of similar stature if he leaves Chelsea. The centre-back’s situation has been monitored at Manchester United and Tottenham, though he is not at the forefront of the duo’s transfer plans.
