Paris Saint-Germain currently have Achraf Hakimi at right-back, and reports indicate that the Moroccan international is likely to extend his contract. However, in football, nothing is certain until the ink is dry.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently noted that PSG and Hakimi are ironing out the final details for this extension, with the contract length and salary nearly settled.

Despite this, could PSG look to bring in competition for Hakimi at right-back? Fichajes reports that the capital club are eyeing a potential signing from Real Madrid and is also interested in Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract expires in 2025.

Alexander-Arnold has drawn interest from several top European clubs, with PSG and Real Madrid reportedly in advanced talks for the young English star.

During a pundit discussion panel on Sky Sports, Theo Walcott doesn’t view the Englishman as a top-of-the-line defender, noting that if Alexander-Arnold wants to win the Ballon d’Or, he still has ways to go.

“I’ve got no problems with the ambition of players, but you’ve got to be realistic in the era and the generation that we’re playing with all these forward players,” Walcott said. “Your Jude Bellingham. Your Vinicius Jr. There’s a lot of players in the clubs they’re playing for as well, the Real Madrid, who win Champions League after Champions League. I think at this moment in time.

“He’s not at that level because defensively, like I said at the start of the game, is where I will feel he will be tested. [Gabriel] Martinelli, we’re not saying Martinelli is a Vinicius Jr. Martinelli is a very good player, but he caused problems and that’s why [we are] talking about [Ibrahima] Konaté coming over to help Trent. I think if you’re Ballon d’Or, you don’t need help.”
