PSG players to vote on club captaincy

Last season, Marquinhos’ (30) role as club captain at Paris Saint-Germain came into question. Amid monumental changes at the club with the change of manager and a squad overhaul, there were two votes to elect the captain at the club.

That vote was a recognition of Marquinhos’ middling form for much of the prior season. The first vote was public, the second anonymous as the Brazil international, and PSG’s all-time record appearance-holder, retained the armband for another season. Whilst Marquinhos had a significantly stronger season than the last, RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins understands that there will be another vote this season in order to determine the club captain.

Unlike last season’s votes, which both came within the space of a week in mid-August, this vote will be held upon the closure of the transfer window. Marquinhos will be looking to retain the armband, as he successfully did last season, despite his leadership being called into question.
