PSG to continue legal battle against Mbappe over €55m unpaid wages after latest blow | OneFootball

Kylian Mbappe’s departure from PSG earlier this year was one of the biggest moves in football history as the player left the French side for his dream of playing for Real Madrid.

What made the deal more controversial was the fact that the World Cup winner left the club on a free transfer, giving them nothing in exchange for his departure.

In recent months, both parties have regularly met at various judicial levels over a reported settlement that is still pending between them.

While PSG state that the player gave up those bonuses and salary when he opted to leave on a free transfer, Mbappe believes that PSG still owe him the sum.

Far from done

On October 15th, the National Joint Appeals Commission of the French Professional Football League (LFP) heard both parties’ stances on the situation and ruled in favour of the player, with the verdict being delivered this past Friday.

Their decision implied that PSG must pay the star the reported sum of €55 million in salaries and bonuses. The Ligue 1 giants, however, are still far from convinced.

“The club must pay him the salary he claims. This decision is not subject to appeal, but can be referred to the Executive Committee of the FFF (French Football Federation),” the verdict said.

Now, as revealed by Mundo Deportivo, Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Co. are unhappy with the development and are set to take the case to ‘more competent courts’ to find a solution that suits them.

They are also open to finding a ‘friendly solution’ with Mbappe who donned their crest for over half a decade, but it is clear that they do not wish to pay out such a massive sum.

The report also adds that PSG’s primary concern in the matter is that Mbappe’s contract was legally modified in August 2023 to clarify that the player will renounce all commitments if he leaves the club.

It remains to be seen what comes of the ruling in the next court approach, but so far it is Mbappe who has been the favoured party.
