One standout from their recent victory was Dejan Kulusevski, who shone on the right flank.

The 24-year-old Swedish midfielder played a pivotal role in the attack, delivering an assist for James Maddison’s opening goal and showcasing his creativity throughout the match.

However, not everyone is convinced of Kulusevski's standing among the league’s elite. According to The Spurs News, Simon Jordan, has criticised his ability to compete at the highest level. Speaking on air, Jordan stated:

“I don’t look at Brennan Johnson with due respect to the fact he’s scoring a few goals. I don’t look at Timo Werner, and I don’t look at Kulusevski, even though he’s playing very well, as players who would get into any of the top sides in the Premier League, that have won leagues and competing to win the leagues.”

In contrast, Gary Neville praised Kulusevski’s performance, suggesting that he might even have the potential to play for elite teams like Real Madrid.

Similarly, Glenn Hoddle, a Tottenham legend, lauded Kulusevski’s improvement this season, highlighting his newfound consistency.

Hoddle noted that the Swedish international has become far more decisive, contributing through goals, assists, and impactful playmaking.

Kulusevski emphasised the need for Spurs to stay consistent if they want to compete for the top spots in the Premier League.

While the victory against City played perfectly to Tottenham’s strengths, he highlighted the importance of improving in matches against teams that sit back and defend deep.

A divisive talent in the Premier League

Kulusevski’s contributions extend beyond subjective analysis—he leads in several key Premier League metrics.

He has the highest number of successful defensive pressures and a league-leading tally of key passes that generate scoring opportunities.

Also, he already participated directly in 12 goals this season for both Tottenham and Sweden, just one shy of matching last season's record.

While Kulusevski has drawn admiration from prominent figures like Neville and Hoddle, critics like Jordan remain sceptical about his suitability for top-tier clubs.

Kulusevski has a chance to keep silencing his critics. Whether he can maintain this form and join the ranks of football’s elite is something only time will tell. For now, he’s firmly one of Tottenham’s standout players and a driving force behind their success this year.
