With QPR firmly lodged in midtable, they can already begin planning for the Championship season ahead.

For the past three seasons, providing they hold their current position, they’ve improved year-on-year, and will hope next season is the one where they begin to put some pressure on the promotion chasers.

To get there, they need to ensure they get their summer recruitment right.

With that in mind, we asked our QPR Fan Pundit, Louis, for his thoughts on a dream summer for Rangers.

Heavy investment needed for QPR in the summer

Speaking to Football League World, Louis said: “I think it's going to be another busy transfer window for us.

“You look at certain positions in the squad and with players who look likely to leave. There's going to be gaps that need filling in terms of first-team starters and options off to bench.

“You look at the full-back situation. It could end up at the end of the season with us needing two right-backs and potentially even two left-backs because [Jimmy] Dunne, [Hevertton] Santos or [Harrison] Ashby all might not be here next season. [Kenneth] Paal might not be here next season. There are doubts whether [Ziyad] Larkeche at left-back is good enough as well, hence why he was on loan this season.

“Yeah, I think in the summer window you've got to look at the full-back positions, the depth.

“I think in an ideal scenario, you want another midfielder, who's got more legs, who can control and is a bit more of a box-to-box midfielder. I think we still lack that. We lack a lot of goals as well for midfield.

“Obviously, the big one: striker issue. We say it every single year.

“Whether [Michael] Frey stays or not, you really want to be looking at signing two strikers in the summer.

“I still feel we lack a bit of pace out wide, so that might be an option.

“And then I suppose the other thing is, I've got a feeling players like [Jonathan] Varane, who has only been here this season, but they've impressed; there might even be interest regarding them.

“I think we've got to sign about eight or nine at least, but I think we've got to try and keep the ones who have looked good this year.

“And, obviously, try and sign the likes of [Koki] Saito on a permanent, try and loan [Min-hyeok] Yang from Spurs again.

“If all that comes into place, then I'd say we look forward to an exciting summer window ahead.”

QPR could save big money on a forward

As Louis outlines, there’s plenty of business for QPR to get over the line this summer, practically throughout the entire squad.

It’s no secret Rangers have sorely lacked goals this summer, Frey being their top scorer but, on eight goals, is yet to break into double figures.

QPR are going to need goals if they have any chance of climbing the league table and, thankfully, they may already have a partial answer.

Charlie Kelman is on loan from Rangers at League One outfit Leyton Orient and is tearing the division up, currently top scorer with an impressive 21 goals.

Whilst that, of course, won’t necessarily immediately translate into second-tier success, but if QPR are in need of two strikers, as Louis suggests, then they may only need to search for one more.
