QPR are set to compete with Blackburn Rovers for the signing of a Crystal Palace player
QPR are set to join the race to sign Jeffrey Schlupp from Crystal Palace this January amid interest from Blackburn Rovers.
According to Alan Nixon, the London outfit are showing an interest in signing the versatile and experienced player.
Schlupp has fallen down the pecking order at Crystal Palace under Oliver Glasner, and has yet to start a Premier League game this season, making 11 appearances that have all come from the bench.
The 32-year-old is also out of contract at the end of the campaign, meaning the Eagles may want to avoid losing him for nothing in the summer amid this transfer interest.
It has been reported by the Lancashire Telegraph that Blackburn have an interest in Schlupp, but that no move is currently on the cards.
But QPR are now set to rival that interest, with Martí Cifuentes looking to bolster his side for the second half of the campaign.
Both Championship teams will also have to fend off clubs from MLS that are also eyeing a move for the Ghana international.
It remains to be seen what Schlupp’s preference would be when it comes to the next step in his career, but it is unlikely he will remain a Crystal Palace player beyond this season.
This opens the door for both QPR and Blackburn to show an interest in signing him now, although it is unclear what kind of fee could convince the Premier League side to cash in before the 3 February deadline.
QPR endured a difficult start to the campaign, but have moved themselves up to 13th in the table after 26 games.
Meanwhile, Blackburn are competing for a play-off place, and sit seventh in the Championship after just 25 fixtures.
The gap between the two clubs is currently seven points, with Rovers just one behind the top six and with a game in hand.
QPR and Blackburn will both return to Championship action next weekend with games against Plymouth Argyle and Oxford United, respectively.
Schlupp has fallen down the pecking order at Palace, but he is still capable of being quite useful for any Championship side.
That he is out of contract this summer should help both QPR and Rovers, as it means he should be relatively affordable.
Schlupp has plenty of experience to bring to the table, and could be a great presence to have in the dressing room.
