Queens Park Rangers have been in the bottom half of the Championship for the majority of the last decade, having been relegated from the Premier League for the second time in three years back in 2015.

Fearing the worst in relegation this campaign, the R’s sacked manager Gareth Ainsworth and replaced him with Spaniard Marti Cifuentes.

Cifuentes, who arrived from Swedish side Hammarby, has done an exceptional job so far in trying to drag QPR away from the relegation zone, with QPR wanting to avoid playing their football in the third tier for the first time since 2004.

Despite a fairly poor last ten years, the club has had a lot better games happen earlier in the club’s history, which all will live long in the memory of QPR fans.

Here we take a look at five of the club’s craziest results in their history.

5 QPR 3-2 Liverpool, Premier League, 2012

In March 2012, QPR were fighting for survival in their first Premier League campaign in 16 seasons and had gone on a run of just one win in 16 games in the league.

With points vital at that stage of the season, it would take a miracle when they face Liverpool at Loftus Road.

After initially going behind by two goals through Sebastian Coates and Dirk Kuyt, QPR managed to complete their comeback to win 3-2.

Goals from Shaun Derry and Djibril Cisse managed to drag the hosts level before Jamie Mackie scored the winner with just minutes remaining to give QPR an important three points. They would go on to avoid relegation on the final day, but just one point.

4 Derby 0-1 QPR, Championship Play-off Final, 2014

In May 2014, QPR were fighting for promotion back to the Premier League having been relegated the season prior.

After failing to go up automatically they had to go through the play-offs, where they faced Derby County in the final at Wembley.

After an even 90 minutes, it looked to be going to extra time, until Derby captain Richard Keough headed away a cross straight into the feet of QPR striker Bobby Zamora, who smacked the ball into the net to send the fans into raptures, and QPR back to the Premier League.

3 QPR 3-2 West Brom, League Cup Final, 1967

In March 1976, QPR were then in the third division and had managed to get themselves to the final of the League Cup.

In the first final played at a neutral venue in Wembley, they came up against a West Bromwich Albion team that were in the top flight at the time.

Clive Clark gave the Baggies a two-goal lead at halftime, but QPR managed to turn it around in the second half, with goals from Roger Morgan, Rodney Marsh and Mark Lazarus sealing the victory for the underdogs.

2 QPR 7-0 Brann, UEFA Cup, 1976

In September 1976, QPR were playing in a European competition for the first time, having qualified for the UEFA Cup after finishing second in Division One. In the first round, they were drawn to play Norwegian side Brann.

Having beaten Brann in the first leg at Loftus Road 4-0, They had all but sealed their progression through to the second round.

However, in the second leg, they managed to go one better. They won 7-0 in Norway, courtesy of a hat-trick from Stanley Bowles, a brace from Don Givens, and other goals from David Webb and Dave Thomas.

They would go on to reach the quarter-finals, only to be eliminated by Greek side AEK Athens on penalties.

1 QPR 9-2 Tranmere, Division 3, 1960

In 10960, QPR recorded their biggest league win in the club’s history, defeating Tranmere Rovers 9-2.

Then in Division Three, QPR trounced Tranmere in front of an attendance of just under 5000.

Four of QPR’s players got braces each, in Mark Lazarus, Bernard Evans, Brian Bedford and Clive Clark, with one of his goals being a brilliant solo goal. He dribbled past five Tranmere defenders from the left touchline, fizzing a low shot past the Rovers keeper to score.

The season would amount to nothing though, as they finished eighth.
