The French Football Federation has announced that Quentin Merlin (22) has withdrawn from the France U21 squad that will face Italy and Germany. The Olympique de Marseille defender had only recently returned to the team after recovering from a thigh injury.

He made his first appearance since the 31st of August on the 3rd of November during Marseille’s 2-1 victory over FC Nantes. The defender was substituted before the hour mark, and similarly in Friday’s 3-1 defeat to AJ Auxerre didn’t play the full ninety minutes.

Quentin Merlin suffers another injury setback

Merlin was at fault for the third goal Marseille conceded during the shock loss, with the fullback losing possession high up the pitch. At half-time, Merlin was replaced by Ulisses Garcia. La Provence writes that Merlin suffered another injury setback during the game. The FFF has revealed that AS Monaco’s Kassoum Ouattara (20) will take the Marseille fullback’s place.
