Rabbi Matondo twist emerges amid Norwich City and Blackburn links to Rangers ace | OneFootball

The winger has been targeted by multiple clubs in the second tier this summer, but will stay with the Scottish giants.

Rangers have handed a killer blow to three Championship clubs, with it emerging that the Scottish giants will not let go of Rabbi Matondo in this transfer window.

The 23-year-old looked incredibly likely to leave Ibrox this summer, but according to Pete O'Rourke on Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Philippe Clement now wants to keep hold of the winger after his fine start to the season.

Matondo scored twice against Ross County last weekend, as Rangers ran-out 6–0 winners at their temporary home of Hampden Park, which has potentially led to Clement's decision.

The Gers boss hinted at the situation after the game: "I think he’s going to stay, yeah. Otherwise, somebody needs to come with enough money," Clement said.

"That you never know in the last week, but my idea is that he will be here this season.

"I hope that he continues what he’s been doing now. And it’s again about details, working on that."

Matondo looked close to a move to Blackburn

reported by Football Insider two weeks ago that Rangers were open to offers for the winger.

Leeds United were the first club to register their interest in the former Schalke player. The Whites were getting increasingly desperate to find a replacement for Crysencio Summerville, but just days later Blackburn became favourites to capture the Wales international.

The addition of Largie Ramazani at Elland Road seemingly put John Eustace's side in pole position, but last weekend's twist all but ended that saga.

Nevertheless, Norwich Citytabled their own bid two days ago, offering to loan Matondo for the season after they sold Jonathan Rowe to Marseille.

However, this was also rejected by Rangers, who see Matondo as too important to lose, especially at this stage of the transfer window.

Blackburn still have work to do on deadline day

Despite missing out on the 23-year-old, that has not stopped Blackburn from buying from the Glasgow-based side, and are set to announce the signing of Todd Cantwell for £1 million.

Rovers are also interested in bringing Fulham's Martial Godo to the club on loan, as per Alan Nixon. However, they will have to wait for the Cottagers to bring in a winger of their own before the deal is sanctioned.

They have already confirmed the deals of Lewis Baker from Stoke City and goalkeeper Balazs Toth from Hungarian club Fehervar FC, in what has been an extremely successful transfer window for Eustace's side.
