The 2024/25 season got off to an underwhelming start at Tynecastle as Hearts and Rangers played out a goalless draw.

Rangers came into this opening day clash looking to keep spirits high following Philippe Clement’s contract renewal on Friday.

The visitors were enjoying most of the ball in the first half but it was Gers goalkeeper Jack Butland who was busiest, saving well from James Penrice’s effort inside 10 minutes.

Hearts thought they might have had a penalty on the half hour mark but their protests for handball were waved away by the referee.

It remained goalless going into the second half as the Gers tried to turn the screw on the capital club.

Zander Clarke was having a barnstorming game in the home goal though as he saved well from Tom Lawrence on the hour mark.

And that was how it stayed as neither side could break the deadlock.
