According to a recent report by the Scottish Sun, Premiership giants Rangers are said to be keen on acquiring the services of West Bromwich Albion’s English youngster Rayhaan Tulloch. The report suggests that the attacker’s current contract with the Baggies is set to expire in around a month, which means that he would be available on a free transfer at that point. The Hawthorns club are also said to be attempting to persuade the 19-year-old to sign a new deal.
It has been suggested in the report that apart from Steven Gerrard’s side, the likes of Brighton and Hove Albion and West Ham United are also keen on the forward’s services. Despite this though, the Baggies are claimed to be hopeful that the promise of regular first-team football next season will convince the youngster to stay on at the Hawthorns. Gerrard is said to be determined on beating Celtic to the league title next season and has been encouraged by Tulloch’s hesitancy to sign a new West Brom contract.
The 19-year-old English youth international has represented the Three Lions at U-16, U-17 and U-18 levels, and has even managed to make quite the name for himself in and around the Hawthorns. Despite having been in the matchday squad for multiple Championship outings, the youngster is yet to make his league debut for the Baggies and mainly continues to represent his side at the academy level.
At 19, the forward has been a regular in the West Brom academy side for a couple of seasons now, and he’s even managed a total of 30 Premier League 2 appearances over the last two campaigns. While his scoring record of 11 goals from those matches might not look all that great on paper, add in his six assists and sheer work-rate, and the final product is an exciting young prospect.
The fact that nine of the aforementioned 11 PL2 goals came this season highlights the rate at which the Englishman has been developing. The youngster’s biggest achievements so far came in the form of substitute appearances in the FA Cup, against Premier League opposition in West Ham United and even Newcastle United.
The Gers’ desire to stop Old Firm rivals Celtic winning a tenth straight league title cannot be put into words, and Steven Gerrard has already started planning for next season. While it could be argued that the interest from Premier League sides West Ham and Brighton are more flattering for the youngster, it’s worth considering that opportunities would be a lot easier to come by in a youthful team like the Glasgow Rangers.
The Gers squad has only three outfield players who are over the age of 30, which displays Steven Gerrard’s willingness to depend on youth to deliver the goods. Rayhaan Tulloch has clearly impressed on multiple levels, and the Gers will do well to beat out the English opposition to the 19-year-old’s signature this summer.
