Who is the best teenage star in the Premier League right now?
According to the Squawka Score, Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen is the best U20 player in the English top flight, running up a stunning score of 71%.
However, there is plenty of talent beyond the Cherries’ Netherlands and Spain youth international, with all of them looking to become the next breakout star.
With that in mind, let’s have a look at the very best teenagers in the Premier League currently, based on the Squawka Score.
Given everything he’s been through so far for club and country — from scoring an FA Cup-winning goal to reaching the Euro 2024 final — it’s easy to forget Kobbie Mainoo is still only 19 years old.
Mainoo has been instrumental for Man Utd this season, sitting in the 80th-95th percentile among holding midfielders for take-ons completed per 90 minutes, duels won per 90 and big chances created per 90. He’s an expert in retaining possession under pressure and progressing the ball forward; now, he just needs those around him to step up.
Teammate Leny Yoro also comes in at 54% but we went with Mainoo based on superior minutes played.
It’s been a dreadful return to the Premier League for Southampton but one silver lining to the dark clouds has been the form of Tyler Dibling. The young winger has been a breath of fresh air for the Saints with his dynamic dribbling and willingness to take on opposition defenders.
Dibling has scored twice this season, which actually makes him Southampton’s second-highest goalscorer, while he’s yet to miss a big chance this season.
The main problem for Southampton in the summer will be keeping hold of Dibling, or fetching a fair price for the England youth international given they’re almost certain to be relegated.
Arsenal have some incredible talents right now and Myles Lewis-Skelly is certainly high among them.
The 18-year-old currently ranks in the 95th percentile among full-backs for ground duel success (79.63%) and tackles won per 90 (2.12), while he’s also completed 5.37 passes into the final third per 90.
Lewis-Skelly scored his first senior goal in the recent 5-1 demolition of Manchester City and while his celebration landed him in a bit of trouble, it was also a sign of the incredible confidence this youngster possesses.
Ethan Nwaneri might well go on to become an elite midfielder but filling in for Bukayo Saka on the wing, he’s done a very solid job.
Nwaneri has scored seven goals across all competitions this season, including three in the Premier League, which is quite ridiculous considering he’s still just 17.
He’s also averaged 2.87 successful dribbles per 90, which is the most of any teenager with 100+ minutes on the board this season.
Nwaneri might well skip multiple youth levels and go straight to the England senior team before too long.
As mentioned, Huijsen has been sensational this season.
His blend of defensively solidty and ice-cold ball-playing have been a key part of the Cherries’ shock challenge for Champions League qualification and whether or not they make it, you have to think he’s going to be in high demand in the summer.
Andoni Iraola will be working hard to make sure he can keep Huijsen at the Vitality Stadium for at least another year and that might well be the best thing for his development. After all, it’s helped him become the Premier League’s most statistically effective teenager right now.
Two players who missed out on this list are Spurs duo Archie Gray and Mikey Moore, with the former’s Squawka Score suffering due to playing in multiple positions and the latter patiently waiting for more Premier League minutes. However, both are showing incredible promise despite Tottenham’s struggles.
