A dominant display from FC Barcelona sees them completely thrash Borussia Dortmund at the Montjuic Stadium. The Catalan giants were threatening to score since the first ten minutes and they never stopped asking questions. Ultimately, Barcelona managed to win with a convincing 4-0 scoreline at home.
With this result, one that was made possible thanks to a brace from Robert Lewandowski, and a goal each from Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, Barcelona will now be confident about reaching the semi-finals. Across the pitch, moreover, every player performed well for Hansi Flick’s team in this game.
Here are the player ratings for Barcelona.
Player Ratings:
Wojciech Szczesny: 7.0
Did not have much to do, but the Polish goalkeeper was composed enough for Barcelona. Even beat some Borussia Dortmund players for fun on the ball, but did not have to deal with too much trouble.
Jules Kounde: 7.5
The Frenchman did well to keep track of his work both defensively and offensively. Even managed to contain Karim Adeyemi well and also linked up quite well with Lamine Yamal whenever he ventured forward.
Pau Cubarsi: 8.5
Unlucky not to get a goal for himself, as the Spaniard saw Raphinha just get a slight touch before his effort nestled into the back of the net. However, he did get an assist for it and his defensive work was solid all game long.
Inigo Martinez: 8.5
A commanding leader at the back, he was there from start to finish alongside Pau Cubarsi and made some exceptional blocks and interventions. Moreover, his execution of the high-line tactic continues to enable Barcelona to shrug off even the most dangerous attacks.
Alejandro Balde: 7.0
Solid defensively, but struggled with his runs and final pass moving forward. The electric full-back could have done better, and that possibly would have given the Catalan giants even more avenues to exploit.
Frenkie de Jong: 9.0
Brilliant composure from the Dutchman, whose positioning and awareness was the spine of the team today. While others will make the headlines, the Barcelona midfielder was the one keeping the team in shape and initiating some of their best plays.
Pedri: 8.5
The Spaniard, alongside his Dutch partner in the midfield, was great in terms of breaking Dortmund’s pressure. In many ways, he was the catalyst that allowed Barcelona to play as if their German opponents were almost two steps behind them all game.
Lamine Yamal: 9.0
While he may not have had a direct goal contribution initially, Lamine Yamal was essentially the orchestrator of most of the chances created by the team. His dribbling was immense, and his vision was simply sublime as he kept providing his teammates with great passes. Finally got his goal as well, and gave Barça their fourth.
Fermin Lopez: 8.0
Exceptional in terms of his intensity, and the Spaniard was always near the box making things difficult for the opposition. He even managed to grab an assist to give Lewandowski his second goal.
Raphinha: 9.5
The Brazilian forward may have been a bit selfish in scoring the first goal as he almost looked to have stolen Cubarsi’s goal, but his charitable side came out later as well. Provided two assists, one to Robert Lewandowski and one to Lamine Yamal later. Also put in a shift in terms of his work rate.
Robert Lewandowski: 9.0
The Polish ace gave exactly the kind of performance Hansi Flick would have needed out of him. Two great goals that showcased his positioning and ability to find the back of the net, Robert Lewandowski had a strong outing against his former club.
Substitutes:
Gavi: 6.5
Did well to add some intensity to the game and brought along more energy into a team that was starting to get tired.
Eric Garcia: 6.5
Put a lot of pressure on the opposition and made sure to not let them get comfortable even near the end.
