Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe reiterates the need to cut the club’s costs, while revealing what plans he has in store for Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo.
In recent days, many reports have claimed that the two young players are unhappy at the club, especially after failing to make progress in their contract negotiations. Moreover, the two youngsters were key figures in Erik ten Hag’s side last season, but they both had their difficulties under Ruben Amorim.
Therefore, many believe the English midfielder and the Argentine winger could be on their way out at the end of the season.
Thanks to their young age and great promise, United would be able to collect large figures from selling the duo.

Nevertheless, Ratcliffe insists that the club has no such plans. Although INEOS are still keen to reduce the club’s costs, the 72-year-old rules out the departures of Garnarcho and Mainoo, as he doesn’t intend to raise funds by selling his two prized assets.
“Mainoo or Garnacho for sale to make profit? No, no. We won’t be selling players because of the state we are in financially,” said Ratcliffe in his interview with BBC.
“The club had got bloated so we reduced that and will finish it with a lean and efficient organisation. That’s how we will address the costs.”
Now it remains to be seen if Amorim would be happy to rely on these two players in the future or prefer to sign others who could be more suitable to his tactical system. The Portuguese manager has already tested Mainoo in several positions, bearing mixed results, while Garncho has been drifting in and out of the starting lineup, largely depending on absentees, and has also caused a stir as of late.
