In an interview with beIN Sport AlgeriaRayan Cherki (21) was quizzed about his future at the international level as rumours persist on which country he will choose to represent.

The Lyon attacking midfielder was interviewed by the Algerian publication after his last-minute heroics during OL’s 2-2 draw with Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday. With Les Gones trailing in stoppage time, the 21-year-old popped up with a vital equaliser ahead of the return leg at Old Trafford next week.

Away from club football, uncertainty still surrounds which nation Cherki will represent internationally. The Lyon-born playmaker has the option of representing three different nations – France, Italy and Algeria. He currently plays his U21 international football, but after being overlooked despite an impressive season, rumours persist that the OL starlet will opt to represent Italy or the Fennec Foxes.

Perhaps hoping that the Frenchman would provide a positive response regarding him representing Algeria, he replied: “We played a good match, the focus shouldn’t just be on me but on all the players. And regarding the national team, one thing at a time.”
