The powers that be at Rayo Vallecano have this evening issued a response to the controversy surrounding the club’s meeting with Sevilla.

Rayo, and Sevilla, of course locked horns in a La Liga clash on Monday night.

When all was said and done, it was the latter who emerged from the Estadio de Vallecas on the right side of the result, owing to a brace on the part of frontman Youssef En-Nesyri.

And yet, post-match, it was not the efforts of match-winner En-Nesyri which took their place in the headlines.

Instead, as much was reserved for teammate Lucas Ocampos, owing to an altogether unpleasant experience involving a member of the home crowd.

During the first-half, whilst Ocampos prepared to take a throw-in, a Rayo supporter leaned over the side hoardings, to poke a finger into the buttocks of the Argentine.

Speaking to the media in the aftermath of the clash, Ocampos was quick to condemn the individual in question, urging La Liga to take the matter seriously.

And, as alluded to above, on Tuesday, the Sevilla man has been backed by Rayo Vallecano themselves.

In a statement released a short time ago, as cited by Diario Sport, Los Franjirrojos pinned the blame solely on the fan in question, amid an ongoing search for his identity:

“Rayo Vallecano of Madrid SAD condemns the action that a fan had with the Sevilla FC player Lucas Ocampos.”

“This isolated action is solely the individual responsibility of the fan who carried it out, with neither Rayo Vallecano of Madrid SAD nor any of the other almost 15 thousand spectators who filled the Vallecas Stadium in the match against Sevilla FC having any responsibility for it, who had exemplary behavior.”
